THE ANCIENT ATMOSPHERE: cyanobacterias and oxygen
DOES CYANOBACTERIAS BEGUN THE OXYGENATION OF THE EARTH ?
According to the scientist observation and estimation, it was observed that during the first 2 billion years of earth existence, the atmosphere was without molecular oxygen, which can be termed to have been Anoxic ( i.e. without molecular oxygen). So as a result of this, it is certain that only organisms that can grow without oxygen can survive or able to live ( Anaerobic organisms). So therefore, autotrophic organisms that are capable of converting solar energy into chemical energy called Phototrophs are present within the billion years of the formation of the first earth.
With the above clues and evidence, we are sure to say that cyanobacteria which is also known as blue-green algae also evolved from these simple Phototrophs one billion years later. Cyanobacterias begun the oxygenation of the atmosphere.
The fact that Cyanobacterias ( the blue green algae) begun the oxygenation of the atmosphere, so the question am trying to answer is that, How then does the atmosphere looks like without molecular oxygen ?
