ANCIENT LIFE 2: Cyanobacterias and Archaeans As far as the evolution of cell in ancient life is concerned, there was an essential evolutionary breakthrough which was the evolution of a pigment system that could capture energy from sunlight and store it in a chemical bond. The organism that possess these pigment are commonly referred to as cyanobacteria ( chlorophyll synthesizing living organism) which is also a prokaryotes ( at one time, they are called blue- green algae) .
