EARLY PROKARYOTES 2: Stromatolites as one of the earliest form of life on earth

The known physical form of these living organism ( microbial mats) are flats mats and stubby pillars called Stromatolites, but there are also some in spherical form or shape.
 Stromatolites are one of the longest living forms of life on this planet. They can be trace back 3.5 billion years to the early Archaeaneon. Stromatolites are sediment structure produced by the sediment trapping, binding and precipitating activity of phototrophic microbes. 
Through the study of a present-day Stromatolites, and the fossil remains of ancient Stromatolites , scientist have been able to infer on how ancient Stromatolites lived. The first record of Stromatolites begins around the early Archaeans, about 3.5 billion years ago , one billion years after scientist have placed the beginning of earth geologic history. The presence of these organism indicate that even at such an early age, advanced prokaryotes were present, indicating that life on earth could have began as early as four billion years.
